Powered by the meter, no power supply nessecary
The gateway can be connected to all Swedish, Finnish and Danish meters with a P1 port based on the Dutch Smart Meter Requirement standard (DSMR). You can recognize the port by the RJ11 (6-pin) connector. Meters using the DLMS/COSEM standard are not supported, these meters have a RJ45 (8-pin) connector based on the Norwegian standard. Sometimes the P1 port is disabled by the energy company. You can contact to enable the port.
Gas usage is monitored too!
Some Gas meters are connected to the Smart Meter using a radio link or a cable. If this is the case than your gas usage is monitored by the gateway too!
Configuration
The gateway broadcasts the WiFi network “Smart Gateways P1 READER” which you can connect to using a smartphone. Select your wifi network and enter the password.
If you are using Home Assistant or Domoticz you are all set and can connect to the gateway by using telnet.
If you are using mqtt, you can fill in the mqtt broker details (you can find an installation manual in Dutch here)
Press save when all the information is filled in. The gateway restarts, connects to your wifi network and starts sending the power usage including some statistical data to the mqtt broker.
MQTT topics
The gateway will publish the following mqtt topics to the configured broker:
These topics can be read by every software which can use mqtt such as Home Assistant, Domoticz or a cloud server on a remote location. It can even use MQTT over TLS to ensure your data stays private. You can configure an update interval so you can limit updates to the broker.
Telnet server
The gateway runs it’s own telnet server which you can connect to and see the raw meter output (telegrams). This is the easyest way to connect Home Assistant, Domoticz or DSMR-Reader. Just put the ip address of the gateway in the configuration of your domotica software and it will retreive the data from the meter.
Webserver with JSON API
The gateway runs a webserver with an API which you can use to retreive the data from the swedish smart meter. It runs on http port 82 and can by found by using mDNS name connectix_smartmeter.local. Below an example of the api data on the internal webserver.
Firmware updates
There will be new developments to the gateway on a regular basis. The gateway will check every hour if there is a new firmware update. When there is a firmware update available you will get notified by the mqtt topic “update_available” changing from “false” to “true”. Also the blue led on the gateway will start to blink fast to indicate there is a new firmware available. Just push the button on the gateway to install the new firmware update.
You can remotely update the gateway by sending “yes” to the mqtt topic “dsmr/smart_gateways/install_update”. It will restart automatically when it is finished installing the update. The update button is integrated in the Home Assistant dashboard so you can update the gateway from there!
Don’t worry, if you blocked the Internet connection for your IOT devices, the gateway keeps working. You will get notified by mail if there are new updates available when you order the gateway on SmartGateways.nl
Home Assistant dashboard
The gateway fully supports the new Energy Dashboard within Home Assistant. You can find the installation manual here.
You can even make your own custom dashboard by using this manual. This dashboard is exclusively available for Smart Gateways users!
Even the diagnostic information is shown for troubleshooting purposes. You can even see the wifi signal strength (rssi).
Domoticz
Domoticz can be connected to the smart meter gateway. A detailed instruction can be found here: https://haprofs.com/slimme-meter-koppelen-aan-domoticz/
